Seek and Expect Miracles - Mormon 9

“Miracles are everywhere to be found when the priesthood is understood, its power is honored and used properly, and faith is exerted. When faith replaces doubt, when selfless service eliminates selfish striving, the power of God brings to pass His purposes.” (Thomas S. Monson, Willing and Ready to Serve, April 2012 General Conference). President Harold B. Lee shared an inspired thought when he taught that the greatest miracles today are "the healing of sick souls."

Do we see the miracle that the Lord is guiding our life if we will let Him do it? President Russell M. Nelson counseled: “Pray to have the eyes to see God’s hand in your life and in the world around you” (Come, Follow Me, General Conference, April 2019).

“Our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, will perform some of His mightiest works between now and when He comes again. We will see miraculous indications that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, preside over this Church in majesty and glory. But in coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (Russell M. Nelson, Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives, April 2018 General Conference).

“Seek and expect miracles”. This action was the one of four other specific actions President Russell M. Nelson suggested to help us maintain positive spiritual momentum. He said: “Moroni assured us that ‘God has not ceased to be a God of miracles’ (Mormon 9:15, 19). Every book of scripture demonstrates how willing the Lord is to intervene in the lives of those who believe in Him….In the same way, the Lord will bless you with miracles if you believe in Him, ‘doubting nothing’” (Mormon 9:21).

“Do the spiritual work to seek miracles. Prayerfully ask God to help you exercise that kind of faith. I promise that you can experience for yourself that Jesus Christ ‘giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength’ (Isaiah 40:29). Few things will accelerate your spiritual momentum more than realizing the Lord is helping you to move a mountain in your life” (The Power of Spiritual Momentum, April 2022 General Conference).

“Many of you have witnessed miracles, more than you realize. They may seem small in comparison to Jesus raising the dead. But the magnitude does not distinguish a miracle, only that it came from God. Some suggest that miracles are simply coincidences or sheer luck. But the prophet Nephi condemned those who would ‘put down the power and miracles of God, and preach up unto themselves their own wisdom and their own learning, that they may get gain’ (2 Nephi 26:20)” (Ronald Rasband, Behold, I am a God of Miracles, April 2021 General Conference).

Pray for the Lord to open the eyes of those we love who need to have greater faith: This is what Elisha did for his young servant, and the Lord answered: “And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha” (2 Kings 6:15-17).

Testimony: There is nothing that builds greater faith and brings more joy than being able to see the hand of the Lord in our life and in the world around us. The miracle is always with us that God “comprehendeth all things, and all things are before him, and all things are round about him; and he is above all things, and in all things, and is through all things, and is round about all things; and all things are by him, and of him, even God, forever and ever….

“The earth rolls upon her wings, and the sun giveth his light by day, and the moon giveth her light by night, and the stars also give their light, as they roll upon their wings in their glory, in the midst of the power of God. Unto what shall I liken these kingdoms, that ye may understand? Behold, all these are kingdoms, and any man who hath seen any or the least of these hath seen God moving in his majesty and power” (D&C 88:41, 45-47).

When we are worthy of miracles and sincerely pray for them I know that our prayers are answered in the ways He knows best. And when they are answered we must not forget to sincerely give thanks for His tender mercies and loving kindness in our life.
